Abundance

Paganism

Decolonize your mind.

Reclaim your destiny.

July - August 2025

Abundance Paganism is a seven-unit journey into the nourishing and transformative sites where European animistic and polytheistic folk belief and practice meet abundance orientation.

Empire, the force that tries to control and homogenize, has cultivated a multifaceted wound of scarcity within all of us. In order to leverage control, it rolls out a constant message that we are undeserving of true abundance — a script that we hear all through our childhoods and all over the media: you must hustle and compete to deserve security and wellbeing.

So many of us, without even realizing it, have internalized this belief in scarcity — which, left unaddressed, can limit potential, joy, and freedom in all areas of our lives, and cause harm to others.

This scarcity shows up in your sense that there is not enough for you; in the belief that competition, conquest, and unrest are natural ways of life that dominate our collective history.

It shows up in the dramatic imbalances of power we see in the world, and in the systems that keep so many people undervalued, under resourced, and underprivileged.

But when we choose to dismantle empire’s constructs in our own lives, we take part in dismantling its impact in the collective, too.

Healing the wounds of scarcity, and tending to the many places empire has harmed us, is deep and ongoing work. And it requires a worldview upgrade, to replace the limiting mindset that scarcity has instilled in us.

In Abundance Paganism, we will turn to the traditions of our ancestors to inspire an expansive new way of seeing the world...

...one that trusts in the flow of life and the creative power of connectionso we can at once empower and enrich ourselves and the many beings that surround us.

A course for cultural and spiritual re-sourcing

This course arose out of a strong call to find the path back to nourishing tradition after inheriting the wounds of culture-loss and culture-distortion caused by empire and colonialism.

Though I had been told through my life that paganism was a thing of the past, after I got to work closely with living indigenous cultures in Canada during my training as a teacher, it became clear to me that the broad features of indigenous cultures worldwide were still available to people of all cultures, including Europeans. Those features include animism and polytheism, seasonal festivities, the making of offerings, connection to land and sacred place, and ceremonial song and dance.

Though there is much grieving to do over the loss of cultural specifics, the basic elements we need for cultural healing are still with us, and always will be.

Beyond the building blocks of traditional cultures, I noticed my indigenous teachers emphasized abundance over scarcity, collaboration over competition, and multiplicity over homogeneity, in contrast to modern European and North American mainstream culture, which often values the opposite.

After years of literary, folkloric and religious historical research, I assembled this course as a toolkit for reconnecting with the basic elements of European indigenous spiritual cultures, often called paganism, with an orientation towards abundance.

In this way, I hope to make some headway in reviving not just the form of paganism, but also the most generative and beautiful way of being offered by traditional cultures worldwide. Because we know that just because a culture is pagan, doesn’t mean it was necessarily healthy for the world, as the Roman Empire shows.

Abundance Paganism is so much more than a list of facts about historical religion. It is a call to return to the source of your connection with life, and your own unique destiny, to take joyful responsibility for living life fully, now, in face of loss and discouragement.

It asks you, in several ways,

What is indigenous to you?

And then encourages you to build upon that trustworthy foundation to make your heartfelt desires a reality.

It’s powerful stuff.

I’ve been living abundance paganism myself, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Our modern world has taught us how to take, but not how to truly receive. Together, we will retool our internal technologies of receiving — joyfully

Because when we sit in outrage at the oppression seething outside us, without taking the space to heal the oppression living inside us, that external oppression only grows.

When we begin by treating ourselves with love and generosity, in all our tenderness and vulnerability, we find ourselves fueled by true, sustainable power, and we can meet the world — in all its suffering and pain — with the same love, gratitude, and generosity.

Empire is expert at perpetuating fear and shame. When we greet that fear and shame with yet more fear and shame, we further tighten the bonds of capitalism and colonialism around our collective life energy.

Instead, we will wield those primeval tools of generosity and gratitude to craft our new belief systems — and our new reality.

From past Abundance Paganism participants:

I recently unearthed my journal from 2021's course and was astounded at how many of the things I desired at the time have since unfolded/arrived... and more. In these desperate times I'm grateful to reconnect to my magic, to be reminded that the natural world is abundant and that we are not separate from it. Thank you!

- Penny, 2025

I’m very connected with nature already, and I took Abundance Paganism to learn more about tradition & polytheism. The course helped me to bring more curiosity and joy to the things I was struggling with, creating more space, more options and more inspiration through an abundant mindframe. It connected me to ways of finding my own inner wisdom while also engaging with European traditions and ritual. It sets you up to make an authentic experience for yourself, without having to copy exactly what was done before.

The course really opened up my eyes to how limited I was creating my own experience and to see the multitude of possibilities available to me. New opportunities through work, social, and creative outlets began opening for me: more avenues to live a joyful life.

- Emily Bulmer

Danica is a wonderful teacher, and thoughtful guide. Abundance Paganism infuses scholarly and historical perspectives with relevant emotional tools for modern practice.

- Sam O.

As a student of history and amateur historian, I’ve always prized literal, empirical facts. This program helped me to sort through the limited historical information that’s available on paganism and folklore and glean what really resonates for me personally. I’m now better equipped to identify historical and contemporary biases in the information I read -- like the idea that all Scandinavians were vikings and believed in a fixed pantheon of gods, for example. Abundance Paganism added tone, colour and depth to my understanding of tradition, and definition to my daily spiritual practice.

- John Bracken

The abundance paganism course helped free me from waiting for a “perfect” situation to connect to spirit. I learned that by being awake and alive in my everyday life, I can connect with the sacred as I am now, where I am now. The divine does not need me to be anything other than I am.

- Penelope

Abundance Paganism opens gentle yet profound pathways to witnessing the unbreakable bond between your own being and the abundant Earth, which dwells waiting to be discovered in the sacred groves of ancestral worldviews.

What is an Abundance Mindset?

It is the practice of choosing thoughts and words that reaffirm the beliefs that we are constantly provided for generously, that the world is benevolent, and that our desires are a sacred compass. It encourages generosity, gratitude, optimism, flexibility, and trust in the wisdom of life.

Am I welcome to join the course even if I’m not of European descent?

Yes! While the traditions and texts I share are mainly from northern Europe, the main goal of Abundance Paganism is to equip and empower you to independently uncover your own unique traditions and spiritual path, whatever your background.

This sounds a little like spiritual bypassing to me. Is it?

Discussion of suffering, in all its diverse forms, is more than welcome here in the course. In addition to acknowledging the suffering caused by imperialism, colonialism, racism and empire, we will talk about how suffering is an abundant part of life, and provides the compost for the fertile soil of our future.

I desire that our pagan practices be responsible, respectful, and supportive of a world in which all beings are dignified and able to flourish in their diversity. Therefore I teach the value of self-awareness, attuned embodiment, and approaching relationship to others with integrity. I’ve also invited qualified somatic educator Marika Heinrichs to guest teach a lesson in order to ensure embodiment remains a key element in our integration of this journey.

As beloved indigenous author and ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer prefaced her book The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World,

“All flourishing is mutual.”

Are you ready to embrace your own flourishing, for the good of all?

Your guide in Abundance Paganism

This is me, Danica Boyce, just after making an offering at a pagan burial mound in Gamla Uppsala, Sweden, the greatest Iron Age pilgrimage site in Scandinavia.

I'm a writer, educator and researcher in vernacular spirituality, folklore and song, and I am called to labour at the dream of undoing the wounds of imperialism by sowing love and connection to the living world. I have a Masters in medieval studies, a BA in English literature, and a Bachelor of Education in which I focused on Indigenous pedagogies.

For the past nine years I have been producing the popular Fair Folk Podcast, a research-based show making information about traditional cultures of Europe available to folks around the world. Since I began the podcast years ago I have built this pagan research, practice and sharing into a rewarding career.

I have my faith in the gods and my devotion to optimism — spurred on mightily by abundance orientation — to thank for the success of my transformation from ambivalent schoolteacher to successful and inspired pagan educator. I am wildly grateful I am able to spend my days sharing ritual and personal growth practice with others, travelling abroad for field research into vernacular spiritual tradition and song, and following my wildest dreams to the letter.

This course has a guest teacher!

Unit 4, ancestral embodiment, will be taught by Marika Heinrichs! Marika (she/her) is a bodyworker, writer, and teacher whose work lives at the intersection of embodiment and justice. Marika's writing and teaching focuses on European folk wisdom as a pathway for people of EuroChristian descent to de-assimilate from whiteness and unwind from domination and supremacy. She teaches in both so-called Canada and internationally, and is the co-founder of a foundation training for somatic practitioners called Embodied Ancestral Inquiry.

Marika's people come from Ukraine, Germany, Britain and Ireland and she lives on Dish with One Spoon treaty territory in so-called Guelph, Canada — lands of the Attawandaron, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples and the current treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit.

May your sincerest wishes travel through time.

By healing the mechanisms of scarcity within us, and embracing joyful self-acceptance and spiritual wealth, we do the same for all our relations: those who came before us, and those who will come after us.

By reclaiming our deservingness of abundance and restoring our faith that we were born to be spiritually resourced, by dismantling the constructs of empire together and replacing them with threads of love, gratitude, and generosity, we are setting the pattern for a more reverent, resilient, and ecstatic experience of life.

A new world is possible for you.

One in which you feel richly resourced. One in which pleasure, delight, and the gods’ and spirits’ loving guidance are always available to you.

Because they are; all you have to do is show up for them as your genuine, loving self.

The desires inside you are praying that you will say yes to them, and step up to claim their many blessings.

The world wants you to see it for what it truly is: generous.

When you proclaim yourself worthy of your wishes, and develop the skills with which you’ll be able to receive more than ever before, you will be far better resourced to create the world you desire.

It all starts with you. How much life are you willing to receive?

Your self care is world care. And I don’t mean bubble baths and pedicures: I mean facing head-on the terrifyingly powerful mythical creature that you are, naked and fierce, so that you can harness that power and radiate it all around you.

You are everything. You are your ancestors and all your kin and the magic that started this crazy precious planet spinning, and the sun shining on every little green baby leaf. When you know that this is who you truly are, you will know how to share it.

Want to radiate joy and abundance? Then I invite you to learn how to shine.

Becoming yourself is ongoing, lifelong work. My aim in Abundance Paganism is to help you accelerate this unveiling, so that you can start living a life today in which you feel deeply nourished, divinely supported, and intimately in touch with who you deeply are, who you have always been.
